Ultrasound guided rectus sheath block - analgesia for abdominal surgery

چکیده
HISTORY OF THE RECTUS SHEATH BLOCK Abdominal field block was first described in 1899 by Schleich.1 Various methods of abdominal field block have been used in anaesthetic practice over recent decades. A technique involving multiple injections of local anaesthetic in the abdominal wall was used in the 1980’s.2 This technique was simplified with a single injection non-ultrasound technique used through the 1990’s, which was commonly used for paediatric umbilical surgery.3 Since 2007 the technique has further developed to include ultrasound guidance4 and placement of rectus sheath catheters.

Brief reports: plasma ropivacaine concentrations after ultrasound-guided rectus sheath block in patients undergoing lower abdominal surgery.
A rectus sheath block can provide postoperative analgesia for midline incisions. However, information regarding the pharmacokinetics of local anesthetics used in this block is lacking. In this study, we detail the time course of ropivacaine concentrations after this block. Thirty-nine patients undergoing elective lower abdominal surgery were assigned to 3 groups receiving rectus sheath block wi...

Background Rectus sheath block is a common peripheral nerve block for patients undergoing umbilical hernia repair surgery. However, rectus sheath block alone can affect only anterior branches of intercostal nerves and, therefore, is incomplete for postoperative analgesia for the anterior abdomen, which is innervated by both anterior and lateral branches. We describe a successful perioperative a...

OBJECTIVE This study aimed to evaluate the effects of ultrasound-guided rectus sheath block in gynaecological surgery with Pfannenstiel incision. METHODS After the approval of the ethics committee and the patients' consent, 75 ASA I-II patients who were aged between 20 and 70 years and scheduled for a gynaecological surgery with Pfannenstiel incision were included in this study. After inducti...
متن کاملUltrasound-guided rectus sheath block in children with umbilical hernia: Case series
BACKGROUND Umbilical hernia repair, a common day-case surgery procedure in children, is associated with a significant postoperative pain. The most popular peripheral nerve blocks used in umbilical hernia repair are rectus sheath infiltration and caudal block. The rectus sheath block may offer improved pain relief following umbilical hernia repair with no undesired effects such as lower limb mot...
متن کاملComparison of USG guided modified rectus sheath block with intraperitoneal instillation with Inj. Bupivacaine for postoperative pain relief in diagnostic laparoscopy
Background: Laparoscopic surgery is associated with considerable postoperative pain, though it is less compared to open surgery. Post laparoscopic pain results from phrenic nerve irritation caused by residual gas, stretching of the intraabdominal cavity and peritoneal inflammation. The Modified Rectus Sheath Block (MRSB) is fairly easy and reliable procedure when performed using ultrasound guid...
